The T55 Java is more tightly wrapped sound wise with a lot of focus. Big excellent for a wide variety of playing situations, however I prefer (and am looking for) and great STM with a lot of 'zing' to the sound. I suspect that is true. Most modern pads have some degree of waterproofing (and sealing of any porosity - apart from kangaroo pads). My stamped logo YTS 62 has serial number 044xxx and Yamaha told me that it was manufactured in 1998. So yours should be from a fair bit before then. If you want to talk about famous saxophonists like Brecker, Mulligan, Kenny G and such; The place to discuss about them is in Brand Name Players. If however you want to learn who are the saxophonists of Sax On The Web forum ... We all know about Martin, but these others are a bit more difficult to track down. Firstly, they are European, no doubt about that. My recollection is that Martin Freres is an old Parisian flute maker from about 1859 who later made some saxes. The AWO1 is a really free blower, and easier to play overall. The tone is a more focused and intonation is spot-on with minimal adjustment on my end. My wife commented that I look much more comfortable playing the AWO1. I don't think "vintage" vs. "Modern" is a date, but rather depends on design. To me the first modern sax would be the Selmer Mark 6/ Balanced Action (pretty much all modern saxophones are copies of either this or copies of Selmer's own Mark 6 copy, the Super Action 80).There is a small key, under the alternate high F (fork F) key, above the B key.
