I agree with this fact however I would like to think that Pokémon Trainer Red has his own canon Pokémon team per Pokémon game. Near the end, Green gets completely wrecked by an "unknown Pokemon" he found in the Cerulean Cave (to the point where he's in bandages, laid up in a bed), and Red goes to find and capture it.
